Ramadan

We are currently in the month of Ramadan, also known as Ramazan.

Ramadan occurs during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the month when participating Muslims fast, refrain from drinking and sexual activity from dawn to dusk. The fasting is intended to teach about patience, humility and spirituality and is also for the sake of Allah.

During Ramadan Muslims also ask for forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in resisting everyday sins.

Every year, depending on the moon, Ramadan moves backwards about eleven days. This year it started on August 12th.

The end of Ramadan is celebrated with Seker (sugar) Bayram (National holiday) over a three day period. This years Seker Bayram falls on 9th, 10th ,11th of September.

It is worth noting that during any Bayram all Banks, Government buildings, along with some local shops are closed.

Urgent Help Requested! How much of a real Kusadasian are you?
THIS morning just after 5.A.M. a good friend of the Kusadasi Times Newspaper lost his family home. After passing away, Hussein’s, Mother and Father left him the family home in their will. Even though the self built house was moderate it meant the world to him. In the early hours of the morning his house was set on fire and the cause is still unknown. Local police are treating these circumstances as suspicious however this is little help to our friend. They believe it could be drug users that just targeted his house at random. He has lost everything that was dear to him but most of all he is feeling the loss of all his family photographs the most; they are all gone. read more
